CREE’S NEW $15 SMARTBULB

Cree

Today, Cree once again impressed the world with its new $15 smartbulb, dubbed the Connected Cree LED Bulb. They claim to “deliver the combination of the lighting experience customers expect from Cree with industry-leading simplicity, multi-platform compatibility and affordability.” Being priced at only $15 dollars a piece, they are positioned to take a much larger chunk of the regular consumer market compared to other smartbulbs on the market.

Cree’s new Smartbulb is a 60-watt replacement that is compatible with Wink%20Connected Home Hub PWHUB-WH01Wink and ZiBee, which provide the ability for you to create your very own “smart house”. These bulbs allow you to control the Cree Smartbulb(s) from anywhere in the world using your iOS or Android phone. That is, of course, if you have service–sorry Cricket customers!

These bulbs also use a shatter-proof housing, which means that you don’t have to worry about the bulb exploding when your kids are having an Air-Soft war in the house. To back up its durability, the Cree Smartbulb is backed by a three-year warranty.

It’s hard to beat the $15 price tag as well, since other smart bulbs can cost up to $100; such as the LIFX%20Edison Screw WiFi Enabled Multicolor Dimmable LED Light Bulb, Pearl WhiteLIFX, Philips Hue, or Bayit%20LED Lighting Starter Kit, BH1805, 2 LED Color Changing Light Bulbs and Wi-Fi Gateway, Control 200+ bulbs remotely From Anywhere with the Bayit Lighting Home Automation App for Smartphones and Tablets, Wi-Fi EnabledBuyit LED smart bulb.

While the Connected Cree LED Bulb is currently not available to purchase at this time, you should be able to find them on Home Depot shelves later this month.

Do you think Cree has priced the Connected Cree LED Bulb at “a price poised to drive adoption”? Or is this simply a cheap smart bulb that will eventually be a bust due to quality loss? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
