We all know about the heated rivalry between Android and Apple users. For years we have been trying to one-up each other, and users of each OS have come up with a number of reasons as to why their OS is number one. Today marks the day for Apple users to finally get their hands on the Apple Watch. So, what do Android users think of the release of the Apple Watch? Take a look for yourself!
It’s pretty funny actually, but this little gesture might take the rivalry to the next level. As first reported by Team Android, there appears to be an image on Google Maps of an Android urinating on an Apple Logo. While Google has now taken down the image, the damage has been done. In response to the prank, Google told Pixable:
The vast majority of users who edit our maps provide great contributions, such as mapping places that have never been mapped before, or adding new business openings or address changes. We’re sorry for this inappropriate user-created content; we’re working to remove it quickly. We also learn from these issues, and we’re constantly improving how we detect, prevent and handle bad edits.
While this is one point for Android in the never-ending Android vs Apple battle, it will have its repercussion. During Google’s apology it seems as if they are trying to take the blame off themselves and point the finger at the users who edit their maps. For those unfamiliar with Google’s Map editing process, Google provides the ability for anyone to make updates to their maps. These edits include:
- Places, like businesses, addresses, and other locations
- Roads, railways, and paths
- Natural features, like beaches
- Political features, like your city limits or nearby locality
- Building outlines for towers, monuments, and more
This begs the question, how easy is it for users who edit Google Maps to get their updates approved? Google does not go into the details of their review process, but this is proof that it’s not perfect.
