GOOGLIFY YOUR BLACK FRIDAY WITH NEW SHOPPING INTERFACE

Google Shopping

Before you ask, yes Googlify is an official word, it is just not in a dictionary. Google announced today that they have released an updated version of Google Shopping for mobile. This update to the mobile interface will allow you to better find product information while you’re weathering the storm of Black Friday. The updated version will now feature product reviews, features, pricing, and even interactive images without even having to go to the shopping section of Google. As outline in Google’s blog post:

Google Shopping

“Starting this week, when you search for a specific product on your smartphone or tablet you’ll see more detailed information about the product and where to buy it, like which stores have it available and product reviews from customers. You’ll also be able to rotate selected products on Google Shopping in 360 degrees to see them in more detail.”

Google goes on to share some statistics about the new ways in which we shop today with technology. Apparently, 50% of people between the ages of 25 to 34 years of age use their smart phones to assist their shopping experience while in physical retail outlets. I know I’m guilty. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would blame poor cell phone connections within retailers on them not wanting you to compare pricing with other retailers; but I’m not a conspiracy theorist.

With this new app you’ll be able to rush from one store to the next and if that product you’re looking for isn’t available, you can look up what stores still have inventory of that product and at what price before you rush onto the next.

Google goes onto recommend shopping online to get some of your holiday back. The real question is, how would we know the holiday season has begun without hearing about people using pepper spray and tasers to get $20 off that item they’re probably never going to use. Food for thought.

Regardless, the new interface is a welcome addition and a secret weapon of the tech savvy shopper. What are you thoughts on the new interface? Are you going to use it to get a leg up on Black Friday? Or will you enjoy shopping from the warmth of your Snuggie (no use trying to hide it now) suit at your computer?
