Revenge porn, the act of a disgruntled lover sharing intimate photos of their X-partner, is one of the most pitiful and immoral acts in the world. The internet and social media have become the primary mediums of carrying out “Revenge Porn.” Thankfully, social media companies are taking note of the damage this is doing to society and banning the practice.

As initially reported by BuzzFeed, Twitter has made a number of changes to their rules (terms of use). These changes fall under their “Private Information” policies. The policies are outlined below per “The Twitter Rules“:

Private information: You may not publish or post other people’s private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission. You may not post intimate photos or videos that were taken or distributed without the subject’s consent.

Additionally, Reddit also made recent changes to their policies banning the practice of posting any intimate photos without the consent of both parties; i.e. revenge porn. These efforts will no doubt protect the dignity of women and men around the world.

Social media sites are not the only ones getting serious about revenge porn. Many states are enacting lawsthat make revenge porn a misdemeanor offense. Also, many of the founders of revenge porn websites are facing criminal charges with the potential of up to 20 years in prison as a result of their illegal facilitation of revenge porn.

While money stolen can be replenished, the virtue and dignity of a man or woman cannot. Thankfully, society at large is addressing a serious problem that has been thus far only viewed as mischievous.
