Since the release of the Xbox One, users have been begging for the ability to play games they once enjoyed on the Xbox 360. Today at E3, Phil Spencer announced that users will be able to play the Xbox 360 games they own on the Xbox One. Yes, you ready that correctly the Xbox one will soon be backwards compatible!
Beginning this holiday season, users will users will be able to play over 100 Xbox 360 titles on their Xbox One. While we don’t have an official release date, we are to assume that the release will happen by Christmas, or at least we hope they meant Christmas of 2015.
Phil also announced that users will not need to pay for the Xbox 360 games they already own. (We assume this means digital) This is an exciting announcement as Xbox could have easily asked users to pay $5 or $10 to play their Xbox 360 game on the Xbox One. (Similar to what Nintendo has done in the past.) Xbox has a goal to “deliver the largest games library on the Xbox One.” The release of backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games might do just that.
Currently there are 21 games that are backwards compatibility as a preview. Some of these games include:
- Kameo
- Mass Effect
- Perfect Dark
- Perfect Dark Zero
- Toy Solders
- Super Meat Boy
- Small Arms
